TOWNSHIP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES


KENNETT TOWNSHIP VOLUNTEER  OPPORTUNITIES

PLANNING COMMISSION: The Planning Commission is made up of nine (9) volunteers (7 members, 2 alternates) and meets the second Tuesday of each month. The PC acts as an advisor to the Board of Supervisors on matters of community growth and development. In this role it reviews all subdivision and land development plans for consistency with the comprehensive plan and compliance with the Township ordinances.


ZONING HEARING BOARD: The primary purpose of the Board is to help ensure fair, equitable application and administration of the Zoning Ordinance. The five (5) member board considers applications for special exceptions and non-conforming uses as well as requests for variances and appeals from determinations made by the Township's Zoning Officer. The Board meets on an as-needed basis.

LAND CONSERVANCY ADVISORY COMMITTEE:  A committee that will evaluate any proposed easements and/or land purchases presented to the Board of Supervisors.  The evaluation will be based on the Open Space Resource Plan criteria.  

BUSINESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE: To provide effective financial know-ho w and advice to the Board of Supervisors and the Treasurer of Kennett Township on a continuing and as needed basis with the intent to create and sustain excellence in financial governance, reporting, and decision making.

PARK & RECREATION BOARD:  This Board operates a joint Borough of Kennett Square and Kennett Township recreation area in the Borough of Kennett Square.

LIBRARY BOARD:  Two (2) members represent Kennett Township on the Kennett Library Board.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COUNCIL:  The primary purpose of this Council is to help local government and residents focus on preserving and guiding the use of our Township’s natural and cultural resources as we grow. This mean s protecting every natural, cultural, and visible resource we can, while accepting responsible cost-effective development.

COMMUNITY PRIDE:  It is the goal of this Committee to keep our Township roads as free of litter as possible.   It solicits the help of Township residents and organizations to "adopt a roadway" within the Towns hip in order to accomplish this goal.

KENNETT AREA PARK AUTHORITY
:  The Park Authority administers the Anson B. Nixon Park.  The Park consists of 83 acres and is located in both Kennett Township and the Borough of Kennett Square.

AGRICULTURAL AREA ADVISORY COMMITTEE: This three (3) member committee meets as needed to review applications from land owners for Agricultural Security District Status. Agricultural Security Districts are designated to protect agricultural areas from non -farming uses, which may make normal farming operations

HISTORICAL COMMISSION:
This Commission acts as an advisor to the Board of Supervisors and other Township agencies. The Commission is concerned with identifying and preserving historical sites within the Township and promoting an awareness of the history of the Towns hip.

SAFETY  COMMITTEE:  The Safety Committee is appointed to consider matters dealing with safety, health and environmental issues.  The evaluate traffic and roadway safety, including traffic signs and speed limits.  Township facilities are inspected for operational safety.  The Committee assists in the emergency management operations and in resolving environmental issues, such as air and water quality, noise, radiation and hazardous materials. 

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE:
The purpose of this Committee is to provide Township residents with consistent up-to-date information regarding Township issues via our web site, www.kennett.pa.us.
DEER MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE:  Coordinates qualified hunters with landowners who allow  hunters on their properties.

TRAILS & SIDEWALK COMMITTEE:
To connect the residents of Kennett Township to our natural beauty and to  each other through sidewalk s and trails that promote health, safety and a sense of community.

COMMUNITY-BASED LAND STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: To promote environmentally beneficial land management practices for properties of all types across the Township.
