Kennett Greenway Updates

Chandler Mill Surveying

We wanted to let you know that additional environmental surveying is being performed this week on Chandler Mill Road. Also as part of the engineering design process for the Kennett Greenway, our consultant’s team of engineers will be performing soil tests within the existing legal right-of-way and locations off of Chandler Mill Road during the next two weeks. These tests provide the engineers with important data that will help design a stable trail next to the roadway. The tests will involve a drill rig that you will see as part of the process. Kennett Township Public Works Department will be on site to assist. Please reach out to me at the Township if you have any questions or concerns.

Birds, Books & Brews

Birds, Books & Brews Event

As an Audubon Society Bird Town, Kennett Township is collaborating with many local Borough businesses and community partners to bring you "Birds, Books, & Brews" - a Native Plant Pop-Up Garden Loop that will run from September 8th through September 18th, concluding with a closing party at Braeloch Brewing.

The Native Plant Pop-Up Garden Loop is designed to highlight the value of native plants for birds and people. Its goal is to help drive demand for native plants for use in suburban gardens and landscapes to keep our water clean and provide critical food sources that birds need.

Many of the birds we’re used to seeing in our backyards are increasingly threatened by climate change, meaning as temperatures fluctuate and environmental conditions rapidly change, birds are experiencing dramatic shifts in the availability of suitable habitat. By providing native plants, we can help ensure that the birds that give us so much pleasure have access to the resources they need now and in the future.

In addition, native plants can help to mitigate the impact of these same environmental events on people by helping to reduce stormwater runoff and streambank erosion caused by heavy rain and flooding.
