Environmental Advisory Council

The Environmental Advisory Council will hold a hybrid meeting Tuesday April 22nd at 7:00 pm in the Public Meeting Room at the Kennett Township Building.   Topics to be discussed include: discussion of the Bamboo Ordinance as well as an update on the Climate Info Sessions. The Zoom link can be accessed on the agenda.

The Kennett Township Environmental Advisory Council is working to identify priority climate actions in the community. Please help by completing this survey to help them better understand your concerns, priorities, and ideas for our community.   Two lucky winners will win a $50 gift card to a local business of their choice selected on 4/22. BOS Recap

April 16th Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap:

The Kennett Township Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday, April 16th where they voted to advertise Ordinance No. 310 which updates portions of the Zoning Code. This ordinance was drafted to address the public safety issues caused by a lack of wireless communication access in certain areas of the Township. This ordinance will now go to the Kennett Township Planning Commission and the Chester County Planning Commission for review. The Board also received updates from the Department Heads and adopted Resolution 2025-8 which accepted dedication of property along E. Hillendale Road.

The missions of Coffee with a Cop is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve by removing agendas and allowing opportunities to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood.

Old Kennett Pike Paving

Old Kennett Pike Roadwork

PennDOT continues operations of milling and paving Old Kennett Pike from the Delaware state line to Kaolin Road (Five Points intersection).

Weather dependent, PennDOT’s contractor will mill (grind off) 1.5” of existing asphalt and will then pave a new 1.5” layer of asphalt.

Traffic will be maintained through the work zone with alternating one-way traffic.  Motorists are advised to allow extra time while work is being performed. Alternatively, motorists could avoid the work zone altogether via alternate routes.



Recycling

Recycling Reminder

The Recycling Drop Off Center is for residents of Kennett Township ONLY.  Proof of residency may be required.  

Location: The Kennett Township Recycling Center is located at the Township Maintenance Garage, 557 Bayard Road, between Rosedale and Hillendale Roads.

Hours: The recycling and yard waste center is open dawn to dusk Monday through Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to dusk.

New Rules for Yard Waste Drop-off area are in effect.

Now that spring is here, yard clean-up and home projects are in full swing! Be sure to review our updated rules to ensure compliance and avoid any violations.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

Speaking of History Lecture Series

Kennett Heritage Center & Kennett Township Present: "Speaking of History"

Hamorton Village in Kennett Township: Skirmishes, Abolition, and Longwood Gardens: 250 years of history 

Speaker: Tina Bennett, Kennett Township Historical Commissioner 

Did you know the first major skirmish of the Battle of Brandywine was fought at the intersection of Route 1 and 52? That the Encore Shop on Route 1 was once a Free Produce Store? That one of the homes facing Route 1 was home to a distinguished doctor and conductor on the Underground Railroad? That there was a school open to students, regardless of color? That Hamorton was the site of one of the first employee housing developments in the nation? Explore this National Register village that we all have driven by quickly but do not begin to know the depth of the story that lies behind its walls.

Kennett Run: Race Day is Coming Up!

Put on your running shoes and head to the starting line. Kennett Run Charites is offering a number of different races this year: 5K, 10K, Power Runs a 1 Mile Run/Walk and a Kids Pond Run.  Race Day is Saturday May 3rd.  Registration is open.  More info can be found here.

Bridges Out of Poverty

KACS Free Bridges Out of Poverty workshops bring together community members, employers, professionals, volunteers, and more to start conversation.  Participants will learn about strategies, tools, and resources to help reduce barriers to success for those with lived experience in poverty.
