If you couldn’t join us live (or would like a refresher), you can now watch the full presentation and learn how rain gardens make a real difference in our community. The Work Zone: Updates from our Public Works Crew
save our streams from road salt

SAVE OUR STREAMS FROM ROAD SALT

Road salt is an invisible but growing freshwater pollutant. In our region, salt levels in local streams are now 10–30 times higher than natural levels, and during winter storms can spike to 50–100 times higher. Each year, more than 11,000 tons of salt flow through the watershed—damaging aquatic life, contaminating groundwater, and accelerating corrosion of roads, bridges, and personal property.

The good news? Small actions make a big difference. Shovel first, use only the recommended amount of salt (one 12-oz cup treats a 20-foot driveway or 10 sidewalk squares), and sweep up and reuse excess salt. Consider alternatives like sand or crushed limestone, and always read product labels.

By salting smarter, we can protect our waterways, infrastructure, and community—without sacrificing winter safety.

KSQ Farmers Market

KSQ FARMERS MARKET

As the market enters its bi-weekly Winter Season, the producer lineup naturally ebbs and flows with the seasons. While the winter market is a bit lighter, it remains full of fresh, local goodness to nourish both body and soul.

Every other Friday, the market continues to offer a variety of seasonal produce—including cold-hardy crops, high-tunnel harvests, and storage vegetables—alongside a great selection of meats, eggs, dairy, breads, baked goods, coffee, prepared foods (fresh and frozen), and more.

Shopping the winter market supports local farmers and producers when it matters most, helping sustain small businesses while keeping locally grown and made goods available to the community—a true winter win-win.  More information on the market can be found on their website.

 Bi-Weekly Winter Market Schedule (3:00–5:30 p.m.)
• January 9 & 23
• February 6 & 20
• March 6 & 20
• April 3 & 17
