KENNETT FIRE & EMS COMMISSION 

The Kennett Fire & EMS Commission will hold a hybrid meeting on Tuesday, December 9th at 5:00pm at the East Marlborough Township Building: 721 Unionville Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348.  Items on the agenda include: the November Financial Report, Administrator Report and the Report from the Fire Chief. The Zoom link can be accessed on the agenda.


PLANNING COMMISSION

The Kennett Township Planning Commission  will hold a hybrid meeting on Tuesday, December 9th at 7:00pm in the Public Meeting Room.  Items on the agenda include: The Director's Report, Discussion of the Subdivision & Land Development Ordinance Article 4, and Agricultural Security Area Ordinance Updates. The Zoom link can be accessed on the agenda.

ZONING HEARING BOARD

NOTICE is hereby given that the Kennett Township Zoning Hearing Board will conduct a public hearing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. in the Kennett Township Public Meeting Room to hear the following:

ZHB 538: THE APPLICATION OF WILLIAM BASCIANI AND STINSON FARMS, for proposed improvements to the properties located at 177 and 179 Ewart Road; being UPI No. 62-6-64 and 62-6-63.1 zoned RS (Residential Suburban), consisting of .89 acres and 4.9 acres respectively. The Applicants seek variance relief from Section 240-602.A.1 to continue non-conforming lot area upon UPI 62-6-64; and Section 240-602.G to continue non-conforming lot coverage exceeding 20% upon UPI 62-6-64 and 62-6-63.1; and Section 240-1901A.4.c requiring a minimum setback of 20 feet for a swimming pool upon UPI 62-6-64.

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING RECAP

The Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. The meeting by recognizing Medal of Merit recipient Michael Bontrager and all of the Kennett Township Volunteers who have dedicated their time and talents on the numerous Boards, Committees and Commissions.  

The Board of Supervisors also passed the 2026 Budgets. You can view the full 2026 Budget packet on our website. The 2026 budget includes a .1 mill increase which is an average increase of about $21 per household. There was public comment around the budget and the Municipal Facility Expansion (police building).  All information on the Municipal Facility Expansion can be found here.

RECOGNITION OF MIKE BONTRAGER

Kennett Township presented the 2026 Medal of Merit to Michael Bontrager for his dedicated service to our community. Through his leadership, generosity, and commitment to public service, Mike has made a lasting impact on Kennett Township and the residents who call it home. In his remarks on Wednesday evening, Board of Supervisors Chair Richard Leff noted the great progress made by the Kennett Trails Alliance towards building the Kennett Greenway and how it was a lucky day when Mike decided to move his business, Chatham Financial, to Kennett Township. We thank him for the time, energy, and care he has invested in strengthening our community, and we deeply appreciate his continued support and engagement.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give their time, talent, and expertise to serve Kennett Township. On Wednesday, December 3rd, we were proud to host a Volunteer Appreciation Reception to recognize the incredible work of our Zoning Hearing Board, Planning Commission, Historical Commission, Environmental Advisory Council, and Trails & Sidewalks Committee members.

Their commitment helps shape and strengthen our community every day. We are truly grateful for all they do!

GET INVOLVED

Now is the time to get involved! Kennett Township is currently accepting applications for open positions on several of its volunteer Boards, Committees, and Commissions.  Kennett Township currently has openings on the Planning Commission, Historical Commission and the Building Code Appeals Board. All residents are encouraged to apply. Your voice, skills, and experience can help guide meaningful decisions on things like land use, environmental concerns, and community planning. This is a chance to deepen your understanding of local government and contribute to our community.

KTPD Food Drive

KTPD ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE

The Kennett Township Police Department is proud to announce its Annual Holiday Food Drive! This season, we invite community members to join us in supporting local families in need. By donating non-perishable food items, you can help ensure that every household in our area has a warm and joyful holiday.

Drop-Off Location: Kennett Township Police Department & Township Building
Collection Dates: now - December 17th
Hours: During normal business hours

Items such as canned vegetables, soups, pasta, rice, peanut butter, and other non-perishable foods are all welcome. Every donation, big or small, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.

Let’s come together as a community to spread generosity, kindness, and holiday cheer. Thank you for helping the Kennett Township Police Department make the season brighter for all!

Recycling Reminder

LOCATION: The Kennett Township Recycling Center is located at the Township Maintenance Garage at 557 Bayard Road.

HOURS: The Recycling Center is open DAWN to DUSK, Monday through Saturday and 10:00 am to Dusk on Sundays.

OH, THE HOLIDAYS! DECORATE, TASTE – WATCH YOUR WASTE!

The holiday season generates the most household waste—up to 25% more than usual—thanks to extra packaging, decorations, food, and gifts. But you can be TrashSmart with a few simple steps:

Reduce & Reuse

  • Host smaller gatherings and limit decorations

  • Use reusable plates, cups, napkins, and tablecloths

  • Encourage guests to bring food in containers or take leftovers home

  • Wrap gifts in reusable items (like dish towels or flowerpots)

Smart Shopping & Gifting

  • Shop with reusable bags

  • Send electronic invitations

  • Give experiences, homemade gifts, or gift cards for services

  • Plan food portions with online tools

Eco-Friendly Cleaning & Prep

  • Use old socks or washable cloths for dusting

  • Clean glass with vinegar

Disposal Tips

  • Recycling: Non-metallic wrapping paper, cards (no batteries)

  • Compost: Evergreens, produce scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds

  • Garbage: Cellophane, tissue paper, musical cards, plastic ware

  • Batteries: Dispose of properly at designated drop-off points

Yard Waste Reminder

Please be sure to review our updated rules to ensure compliance and avoid any violations. Located at 557 Bayard Rd.  The Yard Waste Debris Center is open Monday -Saturday, dawn to dusk and on Sundays from 10 am to dusk.  Additional information can be found HERE.

  • The Yard Waste Debris Center is for Kennett Township Residents only.
  • All contractors must be accompanied by the property owner.
  • No Bamboo
  • No large stumps.
  • No dirt, stones, brick or concrete.

Flyer from Longwood Fire Company-Santa is coming to your neighborhood

GET READY...SANTA IS COMING TO TOWN!

Longwood Fire Company will be escorting Santa through local townships on the dates listed, starting each day at 9 AM. Santa will be in Kennett Township this Saturday, December 13th. Follow along in real time and track Santa’s route on the Longwood Fire Company Facebook page. Be sure to wave hello as he passes through your neighborhood!


Rep Sappey Tots for Tots Collection

TOYS FOR TOTS COLLECTION HOSTED BY REP. CHRISTINA SAPPEY

Rep. Christina Sappey is hosting a Toys for Tots collection to support Marine Toys for Tots – Chester and Montgomery Counties, PA. They are accepting new, unwrapped toys now through December 11. Drop-off Location: District Office, 698 Unionville Road, Kennett Square, PA. Donations may be made during normal business hours. Thank you for helping brighten the holidays for children in our community!

GINGERBREAD HOUSE CREATIONS

Saturday, December 13 | 9:30–10:30 AM  Kick off the holiday season with a sweet and creative family activity! Join the Delaware Museum of Nature & Science for a festive morning of gingerbread house engineering, where participants can design and decorate their own confectionary masterpieces using a pre-baked kit and a candy-filled decorating buffet. New Year’s Eve in Kennett Square! - Wednesday, December 31, 2025

Ring in the New Year beneath Kennett Square’s iconic Sparkling Mushroom! This beloved community tradition returns with an exciting lineup of live music, stage performances, lasers, and a photo booth—a festive night for all ages.

Admission: Entry is a non-perishable food donation to support Kennett Area Community Service.

Entertainment Begins at 7:00 PM.  Early Mushroom Raise at 8:50 PM for families (weather permitting).  Mushroom Drop Stress Ball 50/50 Raffle at 10:15 PM.  The official Mushroom Drop begins at 11:59 PM—join us as we welcome 2026 together!  Make plans to gather with friends, family, and neighbors for one of Kennett Square’s most magical nights of the year!
